Hello, my name is Sarah and this is my story

I’m a board-certified Pediatrician of mixed Dominican and Pakistani heritage, and a first-generation American. I have a passion for medical education, preventative care, and addressing health inequities.

I am a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and have additional training in lactation.

I help new and experienced parents feel confident in taking care of and advocating for their children.

Introduction

In today’s world, our healthcare system favors quantity over quality. In an effort to generate more earnings for hospital systems, appointments are short, rushed, and often unfulfilling. Often, you’ll leave with more questions than answers.

Know that doctors feel this frustration, as well! My goal with this website is to offer free, easy-to-understand resources that can fill in some of the gaps that doctors often don’t have the time to delve into during visits. This includes anticipatory guidance about what to expect with growth and development, advice for supportive care with respect to the most common illnesses, and red flags about when to seek emergency care.

Principles

  1. Evidence-Based: All information on here aims to be supported by research and align with recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics.

  2. Nonjudgmental: It’s hard enough being a parent without additional commentary on the decisions you choose to make. I try to recognize that there’s not a one-size-fits-all approach to parents, and that there’s a spectrum of styles.

  3. Inclusive: I strive to recognize cultural influences in caregiving decisions, differing family structures, and variations in presentations for patients of color.

I have a challenge where I read fifty-two books yearly (one for each week), and I go to used book stores to find my favorites once the year is over. My favorite genres are historical fiction and investigative non-fiction.
